Stage 04 Section 8 · Expert Group

Expert Group / Expert Committee

An independent panel appraises the SIA report — verifying methodology, consultation quality, and adequacy of proposed rehabilitation before government accepts or rejects the study.

Role of the Expert Group

Under Section 8, the Appropriate Government refers the SIA report to an independent Expert Group. This body — typically comprising social scientists, R&R specialists, and technical experts — examines whether the SIA was conducted properly and whether proposed mitigation and rehabilitation measures are adequate.

Appraisal workflow

  1. Report submitted to Expert Group

Collector / nodal department forwards final SIA report with annexures.

  2. Review meetings

Experts may request clarifications, site visits, or supplementary data.

  3. Expert Group report

Recommendations: accept SIA, accept with modifications, or reject and require fresh study.

  4. Forwarded to Government

Report forms basis for Section 8 government decision.
